@Yionna I am so glad you brought that up! It’s commonly known that as a chicken who has received accolades far and wide for his rigorous work on big box store parking lot economics and shopping cart anthropology, that the shopping cart deposit is a mixed blessing at best.
They are forcing polite behavior by holding the shopping cart taker-outer’s quarter ransom in the best case, and in the worse, providing a readily made monetized excuse that because they sacrificed a quarter, they can go about their merry way and leave their discarded shopping cart free to plow into someone else’s back seat or to tangle themselves in their new car smell scent tree. Don’t worry about the physics of the scent tree example, that’s not important.
What IS important is that the shopping carts deserve better, and a quarter paid is a paltry sum in comparison to the hopes and dreams of the shopping carts themselves. The saying goes, “A penny for your thoughts” not “A quarter for the theft of your self determination.”
I’m sick and tired of seeing this kind of behavior around too. It was about time someone gave it the words it deserves. I’m afraid they won’t listen, though. People like that only seem to care about themselves — which is probably the whole point.
And you know, they probably won’t. Which is why they’ll never truly deserve that Ovaltine. But somewhere there has to be an accounting, for the universe abhors a vacuum. And I believe in this case that vacuum is the karmic justice they so richly deserve! That might not make any sense, but it feels like it should. So I stand by it!
I love this. Yes! How hard is it to return it!? They just traversed the whole store, what's another 50 ft or so? So many great lines in this, I can't pick a favorite! Thank you Rude Chicken! It's a disgrace that this needs to be said, but you are on it! 💚
As a Chicken who never postpones mandatory system updates about social norms and expectations, I wholeheartedly agree. It IS a disgrace. In fact, it is well known that shopping carts have a very poor sense of direction, so arguably, leaving them outside of their pens is a form of casual cruelty. Fortunately, I am here and unafraid to make that argument, and why the perpetrators are unworthy of the rich chocolate Ovaltine! (Now available in classic malt flavors too!)
What if they have to pay to use it and when they return it they get their money back. If not someone else does it for them and earns that money

Haha, that’s a solution, but not everyone has high moral standards you know

I promise I’ll read this later, but you’ve already hooked me with the premise alone, so I thought I’d join the fight.
This is awesome ...
Thank you @David De Michele, the battle against shopping center hijinks needs all the help it can get!
